Teaching Endorsements

The School of Education offers coursework to prepare certified teachers for two supplemental certificates:

1) English as a Second Language
2) Bilingual Education

English as a Second Language (ESL) (EC-12)
1. Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate. Provide SEU with a copy.
2. Successful completion of the following undergraduate courses (No more than six hours may be transfer work).

LING 3330	Introduction to English Linguistics	3 hrs
LING 3337	Introduction to Contrastive Linguistics	3 hrs
LING 3338	Language Acquisition	3 hrs
LING 3339	Second Language Methodology	3 hrs
3. Successful completion of the ESL licensure test.
4. Serve one year in an approved ESL or bilingual classroom on permit.

Bilingual Education (EC-4)
1. Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate. Provide SEU with a copy.
2. Successful completion of the following undergraduate courses (No more than six hours may be transfer work).

EDUC 4340	Bilingual Elmentary School Curriculum	3 hrs
3. Successful completion of the TOPT exam.
4. Successful completion of the Bilingual licensure test.
5. Serve one year in an approved bilingual classroom on permit.
