Teacher Licensure Examinations (TExES)

Individuals seeking teacher certification in Texas are required to successfully complete comprehensive licensure examinations. The specific exams required are designated on the degree or deficiency plan. An individual must have either completed the work outlined on the deficiency plan or be enrolled in the final semester of the program before taking the TExES exams.

The successful completion of a licensure practice test is required before a student may register for the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities test, the Elementary Comprehensive test, or the Bilingual Elementary Comprehensive test.

Post-baccalaureate candidates who did not complete their content area coursework requirements at SEU, and who do not successfully complete the designated content area test on the first attempt, will be required to complete additional content area coursework before receiving subsequent authorization for licensure test registration for the designated content area test.
