Standard Certificate Approval

Process

To be eligible for Texas teacher certification, the applicant must have successfully completed all requirements outlined in the degree or deficiency plan, including the
ExCET, TExES and/or TOPT tests.

1. Log on to http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/
2. Select "SBEC Online"
3. Select "Applicants"
4. Select "click here"
5. Set username and password*
6. Enter demographic/profile information
7. Indicate the entity that is making the recommendation (St. Edward's University)
This affirms that the information you have entered in correct
8. Print remittance (payment) form
9. Send remittance (payment) form and $75 (payable to "SBEC-CRT")
10. Send email to Frank Smith at <jfranks@admin.stedwards.edu> indicating that you have registered for your certificate with SBEC Online.

The certification officer will complete the application and confirm this with applicants via e-mail.

* The username and password allow the individual to log on and off the system to check the status of certification application. Emails will be sent to the applicant to verify:

  • application for certification has been received by SBEC.
  • money has been applied to the applicants record.
  • entity has completed the recommendation for applicant.
  • official record of educator certificate is available for viewing on SBEC web site. A paper certificate will be mailed to the applicant at the address provided.
