TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION ASSESSMENT (THEA) (formerly TASP)

The THEA consists of three sub-tests designed to provide information about basic proficiency in communications and computation skills. If you are working toward initial certification, you are required to successfully complete all three sections of the THEA before being admitted into the teacher education program. Minimal passing THEA scores for program entry are 250 in reading, 230 in mathematics, and 220 in writing. THEA registration materials are available in the School of Education office, HCH 102.

Students who fail to satisfy the THEA reading requirement may opt to successfully complete READ 0210 before retaking the THEA reading sub-test. Students who fail to successfully complete the THEA mathematics requirement may opt to successfully complete (minimum grade of B) MATH 1335 or 1336 in lieu of the THEA mathematics test. Students who fail to satisfy the THEA writing requirement may opt to successfully complete (minimum grade of B) ENGW 2323 in lieu of the THEA writing test.
