Texas Oral
Proficiency Test (TOPT)
The
TOPT is designed to assess an individual’s
ability to
speak Spanish. Students are required to successfully complete
the TOPT in Spanish if seeking Grades 8–12 certification
in Spanish, EC–4 Bilingual Generalist Certification
or Supplemental Bilingual Education Certification. TOPT
registration
materials are available in the School of Education
office, Holy Cross Hall 102. Registration
Procedures for the ExCET, TExES or TOPT Tests
A candidate for initial certification
must obtain authorization
in order to submit a valid registration form to register
for either the ExCET, TExES or TOPT test. That authorization
can come only from the certification officer for the
School of Education at St. Edward’s University. In
order to
obtain authorization and have your registration form validated,
you must do the following:
- Successfully
complete the appropriate certification
practice test (see above),
- Complete the
ExCET, TExES or TOPT Registration form as instructed
in the current ExCET, TExES or TOPT Registration Bulletin.
Register for only one test per test date, unless you
receive prior approval from the Dean.
- Submit completed Registration Form, check
or
money order and a stamped envelope to the SOE
office (HCH 102) no later than five working days
prior to the appropriate registration deadline for
approval and validation by the certification officer.
- If approved, the envelope will be sealed
and the application
mailed after the authorization bar code is affixed.
- If unapproved, the registration materials
will be returned to the applicant.
WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions precisely
and in a timely manner may invalidate your registration for
the ExCET, TExES or TOPT, or cause you to incur late fees.
