Parents Weekend 2006
More than 500 people returned to the hilltop for Parents Weekend 2006 in February. If you didn’t get a chance to make it, here’s a sample of some of the activities from the fun-filled weekend.
Parents Reception
An opening reception at the Fine Arts Gallery attended by more than 70 parents kicked off the weekend on Friday night, Feb. 10. Attendees also viewed a Photocommunications Faculty Art Exhibition that included work by St. Edward’s University Photocommunications faculty members Bill Kennedy, Sybil Miller, Anne Patera and Joe Vitone.
Faculty Presentations & Networking Receptions
On Saturday, Feb. 11, alumni, parents and students saw faculty presentations on various topics. Neal Wise, professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences, spoke on “The American Presidency;” William Zanardi, professor of Philosophy, on “Learning to Think;” Eamonn Healy, professor of Chemistry, on “Technology and Society;” and Scholar-in-Residence Hamilton Beazley and Les Carter, associate professor of Finance, on “The TXEntre Project: Minority and Women Entrepreneurs.”
A reception with representatives from the university’s five different schools followed the presentation.
Tailgate Party & Basketball Doubleheader
The Homecoming tent filled with 750 alumni, parents and students tailgating in support of the Hilltopper basketball teams. Revelers shared barbecue, conversation and pre-game entertainment by the Eggmen, a Beatles cover band. Later that night, both the women’s and men’s basketball teams squared off against Montana State–Billings. The women knocked off Montana State 73-72 in overtime, while the men narrowly lost 82-79.
Sunday Mass, Brunch & Farewell
On Sunday, everyone gathered together for a Homecoming Mass, followed by brunch. Plans are already underway for next year’s Parents Weekend, so mark your calendars now for Feb. 9–11, 2007. Hope to see you there!
