Career Success Begins on the Hilltop
The St. Edward’s University experience paves the way for students to succeed
in the workforce. “Our students have many opportunities to learn, network,
serve and explore career paths,” says Barbara Henderson, director of Career
Services at St. Edward’s. “In fact, we urge students to take the initiative
and seize these opportunities early in their education.”
Opening Doors with Career Services
After interning with Austin-based marketing agency, LatinWorks
Marketing LLC, Finance major Sarah Biggerstaff ’09 made such an
impression that the agency hired her one week before she graduated.
“I definitely owe a part of my success to Career Services,”
Sarah says. “They helped me set professional goals and find
the LatinWorks internship.” In addition to her responsibilities
as finance coordinator, Sarah oversees the LatinWorks internship
program, through which other students like Rita Marie Reardon ’10 have gained
professional experience.

Turning Networking into Employment
Adam Zeplain ’10 found support in the St. Edward’s community that enabled him
to complete four student internships, which honed his talents as he explored career
options. “My parents taught me to never give up,” says Adam, “so I developed a
positive attitude of persistence.” It served him well as he turned a networking
opportunity with alumnus Rudy Garza ’83 into a mentorship, an internship and
finally a job offer with G-51 Capital Management LLC in Austin. He now serves
as a market developer at Socialware, a G-51 affiliate.
Excelling in Service — and with People
As the St. Edward’s Student Government Association president in his senior year,
Amhir Hidalgo ’06 served the student body, sat on the
St. Edward’s Board of
Trustees and represented St. Edward’s on the Austin Mayor’s Council for
Student Affairs. These experiences helped him cultivate open, clear communication
skills — which are invaluable in his current role as annual giving officer
for the DePaul University Office of Advancement in Chicago. “My service during
my time at St. Edward’s allowed me to develop professional and academic skills
that I use today building important relationships within the DePaul
community,” says Amhir.
