Lewis-Chen Parents and Grandparents
Make a Difference
The Lewis-Chen family is teaching their children a valuable
life lesson: how to give. Gifts from Trustee Regina Lewis and
husband Joseph Chen, along with Regina’s brother and sister-in-law
Jerome and Sandy Lewis, have benefited St. Edward’s University
students across campus. To leverage their gifts through the GE
Foundation’s Matching Gift Program, Joseph, Regina and Jerome
work with Regina and Jerome’s father, Marvin Lewis, a retired
GE executive, in making their gifts.
Building Opportunities
The family has made generous gifts to the John Brooks Williams
Natural Sciences Center–North and South Buildings, which help Biology majors such as Regina and Joseph’s daughters
Marian Chen ’14 and Elizabeth Chen ’10, and their son Stephen Chen ’07, and Jerome and Sandy’s son Austin Lewis ’11. Elizabeth and Stephen — both pre-dental
students — took advantage of the research offerings available in
the North Building before foregoing their senior years to attend
dental school. Elizabeth is in her first year of dental school in
Houston, and Stephen has graduated from the University of Texas
Dental Branch of Houston and is in his first year of an orthodontics
residency program.
A 2008 gift to the women’s soccer team allowed Elizabeth and her 33 teammates to
travel to Brazil for a two-week training camp and scrimmages
against Brazilian teams. In addition, the family has made gifts
to The St. Edward’s Fund, which provides scholarships to students
in need of financial aid.

Giving with Purpose
Regina says her family is proud to give to St. Edward’s,
where everyone takes pride in the Holy Cross values. “The president,
faculty, administration and coaches all have the courage to take risks
and are committed to providing educational opportunities for students
of all backgrounds,” she says.
She also believes that their family’s philanthropy sets a
standard of giving for their children. “We feel the endeavors
we support have purpose — and we hope our children can see that
purpose beyond its monetary value,” she says. “Then they, too,
can spread that purpose to the next generation.”
