Hilltoppers Gather for Friendship and Fun
Homecoming and Family Weekend is a well-loved tradition on the hilltop.
This year’s event, held Feb. 25–27, brought alumni, students, parents,
faculty and staff together to celebrate the spirit of St. Edward’s in
grand style. More than 1,300 Hilltoppers and guests joined in the
festivities.
Activities for Everyone
Students kicked off Homecoming with a rousing pep rally on Friday
afternoon. “It was very energetic and very spirit-driven — definitely
one of my favorite events,” says Patricia Williamson, mother of Brittany
Williamson ’14.
Monica Bard, mother of Meredith Bard ’13, says her family planned all
year to attend Homecoming. “We arrived Friday evening just in time for
Casino Night and had a great time.” The Bards joined students, parents
and alumni at rolling the dice and spinning the wheels during this popular event.
Following Saturday’s breakfast, Hilltoppers received a warm welcome from
St. Edward’s University President George E. Martin, PhD. Martin shared highlights
of the university’s newly unveiled Strategic Plan 2015.

Events Held Across Campus
The weekend offered plenty to enjoy — from visiting the schools’ open houses and
touring residence halls to viewing a special exhibit on loan from Humanities Texas
and seeing soccer, tennis, softball and basketball in action.
Many parents explored the hilltop with their students.
“This is my first time ever on this campus, and I absolutely love it,” says
Kevin Kelso, father of Elisabeth Kelso ’13. “Elisabeth gave me a wonderful
tour of the grounds, which are beautiful.”
And, what is Homecoming without a tailgate party? Attendees gathered Saturday
afternoon for Texas BBQ, live music, games and children’s activities — and cheered
on an exciting basketball doubleheader. The St. Edward’s men's and women’s basketball
teams took on UT–Permian Basin. The Hilltoppers dropped both hard-fought matches — but
not without a cliff-hanging double overtime in the men's game.
That evening, fireworks on the hilltop lit up the Austin skyline.
Distinguished Guests on the Hilltop
This year, participants enjoyed the presence of two special guests on campus,
Most Reverend Joe S. Vásquez, D.D., S.T.L., Bishop of the Diocese of Austin and
St. Edward’s alumnus Most Reverend Wm. Michael Mulvey, D.D., S.T.L., Bishop of
the Diocese of Corpus Christi. The bishops’ activities included presiding over
Sunday’s Homecoming Mass and the dedication of the Lewis-Chen Family Soccer Field.
