Announcing St. Edward’s University Alumni and Friends Trip to France

Angers, France

Travel Sept. 29–Oct. 7, 2012

At Homecoming 2012, St. Edward’s revealed an exciting opportunity for parents: our first Alumni and Friends Trip to Angers, France. A small group of alumni, parents and friends of the university will have an opportunity to travel together and experience French history, culture and cuisine the St. Edward’s way, from Sept. 29–Oct. 7.

Explore the History of St. Edward’s

Le Mans, France

Angers holds special significance to St. Edward’s. The French village of Le Mans, located near Angers, is the birthplace of the Congregation of Holy Cross — founders of St. Edward’s University.

Angers is also home to the Université Catholique de l’Ouest (UCO), one of our 11 international partner universities. While the alumni and friends group is in Angers, UCO will celebrate “St. Edward’s University Day” with the St. Edward’s students and professors at UCO. President George E. Martin will also be in Angers for the festivities.

“Just as we want parents to visit campus and experience how we educate students in the Holy Cross tradition in Austin, we are hoping parents will join us for our first trip to France to take part in the past, present and future of St. Edward’s,” says Kippi Griffith MBA ’01, associate vice president of Alumni and Parent Programs.

Other attractions on the trip include a personalized guided tour of Normandy, a vineyard tour and tasting, and visits to the magnificent Chateaux de Angers — ancient castles in the Loire Valley built by French kings. Participants will have the opportunity to visit Le Mans, where Blessed Basil Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, was born and beatified. Before returning to the U.S., travelers will also spend two days exploring Paris.
