Homecoming and Family Weekend 2013
Hilltoppers Gather for Friendship and Fun
Homecoming and Family Weekend is a festive time at St. Edward’s. This year’s event, held Feb. 15-17, brought more than 1,500 alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff together to celebrate and embrace their hilltop pride.
Activities for Everyone
Friday afternoon, students kicked off Homecoming with a rousing Hilltop Pride Day pep rally. Later that evening parents joined students and alumni at rolling the dice and spinning the wheels during Casino Night.
Following Saturday’s welcome breakfast, President
George E. Martin presented the latest university news. “It was very exciting to hear from Dr. Martin about what is and will be happening at St. Edward’s during the years our daughter is there,” say Hung and Janet Le, parents of Vivian Le ’16.
Martin’s announcements included a generous $20 million gift for scholarships from Bill and Pat Munday (see left sidebar), our ranking as a top producer of U.S. Fulbright Students in 2012, and a $200,000 W.M. Keck Foundation Grant for the School of Natural Sciences.

Events Held Across Campus
The weekend offered plenty to enjoy — from touring campus and residence halls, to attending a presentation by award-winning director and human rights educator Robin Romana, to catching Hilltopper athletics in action.
“I really appreciated the faculty reception,” says Hector Ochoa ’81, father of Victoria Ochoa ’16. “It was helpful meeting professors and learning about their approach to classes and how they go beyond the call of duty for students.”
As part of its 40th anniversary season, Mary Moody Northen Theatre featured
A Night at the Theater for Parents, with a special performance of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. And theater alumni came from near and far to celebrate.

Attendees saw construction progressing on new campus facilities, including the new library and the final phase of the natural sciences center — both to be completed by Fall 2013.
And what is Homecoming without a tailgate party? Attendees gathered Saturday afternoon for BBQ, music, games and children’s activities — and cheered on an exciting basketball doubleheader against Texas A&M-International.
