Get Ready for Spring

Spring Job & Internship Fair = Success for Students

More than 300 students attended last spring’s fair and networked with representatives from more than 90 companies — a record high for the university. Companies as diverse as the Austin American-Statesman, Dell, the FBI, H-E-B and Time Warner recruited students at the fair.

Stellar Students Impress Diverse Companies

And employers were clearly impressed. In anonymous surveys, they commented on the abundance of “professional” students with “very good résumés and well-prepared questions.”

Because of the positive impression of St. Edward’s University students, area employers are eager to hire the graduates from St. Edward’s. According to Career Planning, a number of Austin’s top employers regularly look to St. Edward’s for entry-level talent:

  • IBM
  • Dell
  • Austin Independent School District
  • AMD
  • 3M
  • Texas Department of Transportation
  • Motorola
  • City of Austin
  • Applied Materials
  • Lower Colorado River Authority
  • AT&T

Career Resources Help Students Do Their Homework

That’s because students at St. Edward’s have career resources at their fingertips. They can access online tools like the VAULT Career Library, the searchable Hilltop Careers database and the eDISCOVER program. They can attend workshops on topics ranging from graduate school admission to business etiquette. They can also meet one on one with career counselors for a range of support services:

  • Résumé reviews
  • Identification of student strengths and interests
  • Mock interviews to sharpen skills

Mark Your Calendar for the 2007 Event

Make sure your student is ready for the next professional opportunity that comes his or her way — save the date for Career Planning’s 2007 Job & Internship Fair on Thursday, March 22, from 1–4 p.m. in the Recreation and Convocation Center on campus. As the date approaches, encourage your student to log into Hilltop Careers for an updated list of registered employers and meet with a career counselor to prepare.
