Digital Media Management Program Launches
for Undergraduates
Building on the success of its innovative graduate program in Digital Media Management, the School of Management and Business recently launched a similar program for undergraduates. The unique curriculum prepares students for a range of exciting career paths, from video gaming and content syndication to music distribution and interactive media promotion.
The program focuses on traditional business concepts and includes specialized courses that address the needs of today's business and digital media settings:
- Music
- Film
- Video
- Computers
- Gaming
The undergraduate program consists of all the core business requirements, plus five classes and two electives specific to digital media management. Students can also complete an internship as one of their electives.
Bringing the Industry to the Classroom
To help students stay current on the latest digital business trends, industry experts are frequently invited to speak at the university. Students also benefit from presentations and panels — which include prominent industry players like Charlie Boswell, head of digital media and entertainment at AMD — that are hosted by St. Edward's. And, they get a firsthand look at how local companies within the digital media industry function on a daily basis. Recent tours have included:
- Austin FilmWorks
- GSD&M
- Bismeaux Studio
Meeting the Demands of the Evolving Marketplace
The Digital Media Management program was primarily the result of the university's commitment to offering courses of study that both broaden the perspectives of students and reflect the demands of the marketplace. "There's an established industry need for the type of business manager who's fluent in core business disciplines as well as the entertainment and media industries," notes Russell Rains, the program's director. "That's why we created the MBA in Digital Media Management. We followed that original thinking to launch the Digital Media Management major for undergraduates." |
