Expanded Emergency Notification
System for Students
Safety is a priority on our campus. St. Edward’s works to ensure safety through a University Police Department that patrols our campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And, our Emergency Response Guide keeps us better prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Beyond these efforts, we continually work on new ways of keeping students safe and secure. This summer, the university unveiled an electronic communication system called Topper Text. With Topper Text, students can sign up to receive emergency notifications from university administrators. Potential situations where Topper Text will come in handy include the campus being closed due to weather.
The new service supplements existing emergency notification processes such as the Inclement Weather Hotline and the St. Edward’s web site. Subscribers will receive these special text messages via:
- Designated cell phone numbers
- University e-mail addresses
While the service is free to St. Edward’s University students and faculty and staff members, cell phone carriers may charge a small fee. Since cell phone plans vary, check with your provider to find out if they will charge your student for receiving the messages. Then, remind your son or daughter to subscribe to Topper Text — it’s easy to set up. |
