$1-Million Deadline!
Mabee Challenge Presents Opportunity for
Year-End Gift
In January, St. Edward’s received a challenge from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation — complete fundraising for the $22-million John Brooks Williams Natural
Sciences and Technology Center–South Building by Jan. 12, 2012, and the foundation
will award the university a $1-million grant for the facility.
Only 36 days remain until the Jan.
12 challenge deadline — and Dec. 31 is the IRS deadline for tax-deductible charitable
contributions. We invite parents to make a year-end gift to help ensure we receive
the $1-million grant.
President George E. Martin is confident that the university will meet the goal.
“We are optimistic because we know that parents of St. Edward’s students are passionate
about their development as critical thinkers and creative problem solvers. And it is
also exciting to know that your gift or pledge will help to leverage a $1-million gift,”
says Martin.
The South Building, which will house the Computer Science, Mathematics,
Physics and general science education programs, will complete the university’s
natural sciences complex and provide opportunities for all students to increase
mathematic and scientific literacy — skills that graduate programs and employers value highly.
“The North Building has been instrumental in inspiring collaboration and enthusiasm
among students and faculty in classroom and research settings,” says Tom Mitzel, dean
of the School of Natural Sciences. “That passion will spread into the new South Building, and
further strengthen and grow the teaching and research community that our students and faculty
foster so well.”
