Premont and Fleck Find New Purpose in Life

Premont Hall goes from residence hall to office space

St. Edward’s may be constructing state-of-the-art buildings like Jacques Dujarié Hall and the John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center, but this is no case of out with the old, in with the new. The university has remodeled Premont Hall and drawn up plans to expand Fleck Hall.

Last spring and summer, construction crews converted Premont Hall from a residence hall into offices for faculty and staff, implementing chic signage, vintage-style fixtures and warm colors to create an inviting yet professional ambience. Jacques Dujarié Hall, an amenity-rich on-campus residence opened in Fall 2005, will house the students who would have lived in Premont.

Fleck Hall will relinquish its role as a science building with the completion of the John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center in Fall 2006. But Fleck will still serve as a home to classes and faculty offices. After Fleck’s current faculty and staff residents relocate, the hall will get a makeover that includes the addition of a third floor with glass-walled conference rooms opening up to one of the campus’s best views of downtown Austin.
