Fusion Reading Group for St. Edward’s Faculty, Staff, and Students; 12-1 p.m., Fleck Hall 314

Fusion is open to St. Edward’s faculty, staff, and students in order to merge their diverse and distinct perspectives as they discuss some important and relevant issues of today. RSVP to Kate Rosati. The group will discuss, psychologist Steven Pinker's "The Moral Instinct." RSVP required.

Lunch and Discussion: Globalizing the Curriculum, 12-1 p.m., Fleck Hall 305

All faculty and staff members interested in how we're globalizing the curriculum are invited to an Office of International Education and Center for Ethics and Leadership sponsored lunch discussion of "The World Awaits: Globalizing U.S. Education" by Duane Acker. This three-page article first appeared in Wiley InterScience online in 2007. A copy will be sent to you when you RSVP. Lunch will be provided. RSVP required.

Passion & Civility: The Final Debate, 2 p.m., Mabee Ballroom A&B, Robert and Pearle Ragsdale Center

Join the Center for Ethics and Leadership and Campus Ministry for the final Passion & Civility debates. The tournament began with 32 traditional undergraduate students from all academic disciplines debating ethically-driven topics that ranged from the local to the international. In single-elimination style, the 32 have been narrowed down to just the final four. Come watch the students duke it out with passion and civility. Food and refreshments provided. Event is free and open to the public.

The Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st Century, 4 p.m., Jones Auditorium, Robert & Pearle Ragsdale Center

The series will feature The Rev. Richard P. McBrien, O’Crowley- McBrien, Crowley-O'Brien Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame, as he discusses, “The Future of the Church: Challenges in the New Millennium.” Event is free and open the public. A reception will follow the event.

Difficult Dialogues: Engaging Students in Learning about Pluralism workshop hosted by the Center for Teaching Excellence and the CEL.

Leadership in Writing with Author John Pipkin, 4:30-5:30 p.m., Fleck Hall 305

John Pipkin will answer any students’ questions about writing careers from 3:30-4:30pm in the first floor Andre Hall lobby.

At 4:30 p.m. in Fleck Hall 305, everyone is invited to join John Pipkin, former Executive Director of the Writers’ League of Texas, as he reads a chapter from his first novel, Woodburner, which tells the story of how Thoreau set fire to the woods at Walden Pond.
