  • The Visiting Writers Series: A Reading by Debra Monroe
    Wednesday, February 1, 7:30pm-9:00pm at Main Building, Maloney Room

    Join us for the Visiting Writers Series reading by Debra Monroe. Monroe’s first book, The Source of Trouble won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Fiction. She has received critical acclaim for a second book of stories, A Wild, Cold State, and the novels Newfangled and Shambles. Her new memoir about being the white mother of a black daughter in rural Texas is On the Outskirts of Normal.

  • Team Captains’ Meeting: a Student Homecoming Week event

    Team captains will meet with Homecoming staff to discuss the week’s events.
     
    Team captains need to be prepared to submit in which events their teams will be participating. Important information will be distributed.

  • VOTE for Homecoming Court

    The St. Edward’s Homecoming Court is to visibly recognizes students who demonstrate strong academic standards, uphold the St. Edward’s mission, and exhibit excellent school spirit.
    The Homecoming Court includes three male and three female winners, based on the highest number of votes. The male and female with the most votes will be crowned Mr. and Ms. SEU 2012 during halftime at the men’s basketball game on Feb. 11.
    Everyone is able to vote for three males and three females.
    Voting opens Feb. 4 at noon through Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m.

  • Kickball Tournament & Funtivities: a Student Homecoming Week event

    The grade school game is back! Kick it with your friends and get free t-shirts and prizes. Team t-shirt distribution and fun team games will also be available.

  • The Tourneés Festival: Of Gods and Men
    Sunday, February 5, 12:00pm-2:00pm at Robert and Pearle Ragsdale Center, Jones Auditorium

    The Tournées Festival is a program of the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE), in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, which aims to bring contemporary French cinema to American college and university campuses.
    The St. Edward's festival will be showing the film Des dieux et des hommes (Of Gods and Men). Pizza and dessert will be served. A discussion will be led by Bro. Jonathan Beebe following the film.

    All boards must be completed by 4 p.m. on Tuesday for judging.

  • Opening Reception for the Graphic Design Senior Show: Offset

    Celebrate the accomplishments of St. Edward’s University graduating Graphic Design seniors as they present final examples of their work. The opening reception for the 2012 Graphic Design Senior Exhibition: Offset will be will be Friday, Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. The show will run through March 2. Normal gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Join the University Programming Board in a special film presentation of New York Times best-selling book, The Help, in observance of Black History Month. Reality is revealed when a journalist decides to write on the accounts of African- American maids during the Civil Rights era.   • The Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series features Rev. Edward Foley, Capuchin

    The Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st Century will feature Rev. Edward Foley, Capuchin, the Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality and Professor of Liturgy and Music at Catholic Theological Union. He will be discussing "Passing the Torch: Full, Conscious, and Active Participation Reconsidered."
    The series honors the Most Reverend John McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university's commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross heritage.
    Event is open to the public. Reception to follow. Complimentary valet parking provided.
     

  • Scholarship as a Spiritual Practice - Part 2 of the Subversive Spirituality Series

    Faculty are invited to a mini-retreat.  This is the 2nd part of a 3-part series for faculty to explore the calling as educators.

  • Black History Month: My Black is Beautiful

    Within the African-American community, there are many different shades of color that represent the deep-seated cultural history of Black people.
    This year for Black History Month, students will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the issue of light versus dark skin in the community as well as celebrate their own shade of color.
    Join the Multicultural Leadership Board on Feb. 15, 2012, to discuss what this issue means and how it can be positively changed in ethnic communities.

  • American Experience Film Series: All on a Mardi Gras Day
    Thursday, February 16, 5:00pm-7:00pm at Fleck Hall, Room 314

    Most New Orleanians name All on a Mardi Gras Day, directed by Royce Osborn, as the best documentary about how locals celebrate Carnival! To celebrate Mardi Gras 2012, Dr. Bonner will screen the film and lead a discussion on how carnival and parading traditions offer people the opportunity to both celebrate their cultural traditions and to express political protest. Dr. Bonner is a native New Orleanian whose neighborhood was destroyed in the Hurricane Katrina floods. All on a Mardi Gras Day was completed in 2004, the year before the floods took away so many of New Orleans' people and neighborhoods. 
     

  • Mary Moody Northen Theatre Presents THE CRUCIBLE by Arthur Miller

    Morality and reason take a back seat to hysteria and public violence in the charged landscape of 17th century Salem, Massachusetts. Growing accusations of witchcraft place every man, woman and child in peril. When neighbor is pitted against neighbor, even reading a book may be cause for condemnation. Against this backdrop, John Proctor must wrestle his own demons, knowing that his life and the life of the woman he loves hang in the balance. The Crucible has burned into the American psyche and continues to ignite our senses today. Featuring Equity guests David Long, David Stahl and Robin Grace Thompson.

    Join us for a day of service in the neighborhood of 78744, a community just southeast of St. Edward’s.  St. Edward’s will be collaborating with University of Texas at Austin for Project 2012, UT’s largest day of service. There will be approximately 2,000 individuals working all day in the area.  We want to represent St. Edward's well so register and tell your friends.

    Celebrated actor Bob Weick performs noted historian Howard Zinn’s brilliant, timely play, “Marx in Soho.”  The play is an excellent introduction to Marx’s life, his analysis of society, and his passion for radical change.  Marx uses current news and events to show how his ideas still resonate.  Zinn’s dialogue doesn’t preach, rather it is full of mischievous humor. Co-sponsored by the School of Education and The Center for Ethics and Leadership.
