St. Edward's 1,000th Celebration: Schedule
Join us for a month-long celebration of the 1,000th birthday of St. Edward, the Confessor and King, patron saint of St. Edward's University.
Community Service Days
Monday, Aug. 29 to Monday, Oct. 17
Faculty, staff, students and alumni of St. Edward's will be asked, as a community, to give 1,000 hours of community service before the campus celebration on Thursday, Oct. 20. This can be done as a group or as an individual. The group(s) and individual(s) with the most service hours completed will receive special recognition at the event. All service participants will receive a T-shirt. Make your pledge now.
Reception to Honor the Congregation of Holy Cross

Students, faculty and staff are invited to the annual celebration that honors members of the Congregation of Holy Cross for their wonderful contributions to our community. Refreshments provided.
Founder's Day Service Project
9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 14
Three locations (see below)
Participate in the Holy Cross tradition of service by volunteering at one of these three sites. Lunch will be provided.
- Blunn Creek: In the spirit of Brother Daniel Lynch, CSC, who was instrumental in the preservation of neighboring Blunn Creek, engage in a day of service working on trail improvements, beautification and creek clean-up.
- Caritas of Austin: In the spirit of Brother William Dunn, CSC, who volunteered tirelessly at Caritas of Austin, travel to the Caritas soup kitchen to serve food to the homeless.
- Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center: In the spirit of Father Basil Moreau, CSC, who embraced different styles of prayer, work in the Wildflower Center garden and experience a meditation in nature.

Lecture on St. Edward, the Confessor
Tuesday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m.
Jones Auditorium, Robert & Pearle Ragsdale Center
Lecture by alumna Susan Akin, '02, MLA '04. Susan traveled to England to research King Edward and wrote her final MLA project about him.
Special Mass
Thursday, Oct. 20, noon
Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel
Special Mass for the campus community preceding the campus celebration.
Campus Celebration "Fit for a King"
Thursday, Oct. 20, 12:30 – 2 p.m.
Recreation and Convocation Center
Join members of the St. Edward's community at this fun event for faculty, staff and students.
All festivities are fit for a king, including:
- Original performance on St. Edward, the Confessor, by Theater Arts students
- Food, drink and other merriment
- Music by The Madrigals
- “Create your own crown” for kids and adults, alike
- Ye royal photo booth
- Remarks by President George E. Martin
- Recognition of community service participants
