    BE A MENTOR and support new students during their transition into campus life for the 2013-2014 academic year. Hilltop Mentors, coordinated by Student Life, matches faculty, staff, and upperclassmen with first-year, transfer, and international students. Mentoring is a relationship that, when consciously grounded in learning, is beneficial for both the mentor and mentee. This experience is about supporting development, fostering community engagement, and encouraging each individual to make the most of their time at St. Edward's.

  • Family Friendly Flintknapping Workshop
    Saturday, August 3, 10:00am-12:00pm at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, 805 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. Austin, TX 78746

    Join Jewel Pollard, trailguide and natural history expert, as he hosts a Flint Knapping class on August 3rd. You will learn the difference between chert and flint and how exactly those little points are transformed into an important tool. Different techniques and tools will be provided. Jewel has been crafting arrowheads since the early 60’s and is a wealth of knowledge on the subject. 
    Class limited to 16 individuals ages 10 and up.

  • Wild Basin Second Saturday Guided Hike
    Saturday, August 10, 9:00am-11:00pm at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, 805 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. Austin, TX 78746

    Come and explore the trails of Wild Basin with seasoned trail guide John Barr. John will review the historical landscape of the Texas Hill Country as well as native plants and their medicinal uses. Registration is through meet-up.com, http://www.meetup.com/bcpfriends/events/qlpmlfyrlbnb/
    It is advised to wear closed toe shoes, sun protection and bring water. 

  • Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary: A Holy Day of Obligation
    Thursday, August 15, 12:00pm-12:30pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel

    Come celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary (a Holy Day of Obligation) at noon Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel. 
    On November 1, 1950, Pius XII defined the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of faith: “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.”

  • Wild Basin Land Management Workday
    Saturday, August 17, 8:30am-12:30pm at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, 805 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. Austin, TX 78746

    Like to get dirty, work hard, and have fun? Then join volunteers for trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, revegetation, erosion control, and other land management projects on the third Saturday of each month.   Note:  Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes and long pants with a long-sleeved shirt.  Bring bottled water and gloves, plus a day pack to carry personal items. You need your hands free! Dress for the weather: hat & sunscreen for solar protection and a raincoat/light jacket if it's chilly or raining lightly. We don't go out in thunderstorm conditions.

    Freshman students entering the fall semester may choose from six Orientation sessions throughout the summer. Events planned during Orientation provide opportunities to meet other new students, as well as St. Edward's University faculty, staff, student leaders and administrators. In addition, we provide academic placement testing so you may choose courses appropriate to your proficiencies.

    The Center for Teaching Excellence invites you to attend the 2013 Teaching Symposium: A Conference on College Teaching. The conference runs from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  An opening plenary session is followed by presentations, panels, and workshops on a wide range of teaching topics.  This peer-reviewed conference aims to actively engage participants.   • Medallion Ceremony and New Student Convocation

    Join President Martin, faculty, and staff to celebrate the induction of new students into the St. Edward's University community.  Incoming freshmen and transfer students will receive a medallion with the seal of the University which they can wear at graduation.  Students should dress in business casual attire.  

  • Hilltop Leaders Applications
    Monday, August 26, 9:00am-Wednesday, September 11, 12:00am

    Hilltop Leaders is a program facilitated by the Student Leadership Team (SLT) that is available to freshmen and sophomores who are interested in learning about who they are as leaders and exploring the many ways that leadership manifests itself in different settings. Students participate in interactive weekly sessions, attend a weekend retreat, create and implement a group service project, and take part in a five-day trip to Washington, D.C. The experience applies theory to practice, and students who complete the program successfully will be recognized at an end-of-year ceremony. You also have the opportunity to get 1 hour of class credit.

  • Facilitator in Training Applications
    Monday, August 26, 2:00pm-Friday, September 13, 3:00pm

     
    Facilitators in Training (FIT) is a semester-long program that teaches participants to work with groups to enhance group dynamics, communication, problem-solving and more using experiential learning and team building activities. Participants will:

    • Attend weekly meetings in the fall semester
    • Attend a weekend retreat
    • Complete 10 hours of shadowing
    • Co-facilitate sessions

    FIT is offered in the fall semester. Participants who successfully complete the program requirements are eligible to become Leading EDGE facilitators and will have learned techniques for working with groups that can be applied on campus with student organizations as well as in future work environments.

    Campus Ministry & Office of Community Engagement will be moving to Doyle Hall, 3rd Floor in preparation for the construction to Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel and Mang House.

Shuttles leave from outside of Mary Moody Northen Theatre beginning at 8 p.m. The last shuttle from campus leaves at 10:15 p.m.
