Named Facilities
Paying tribute to the most generous gifts often includes naming a new facility after the donor or donors that make it possible. Such is the case with the John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center and Trustee Hall.
During the last campaign, two facilities at St. Edward's University were named on behalf of the donors whose gifts made these new buildings possible.
John Brooks Williams Natural Sciences Center
As owner of Houston’s Markle Steel Company, John Brooks Williams was a successful Houston businessman. Williams named his friend and St. Edward’s trustee John Bauer, ’62, executor of his estate. When Williams passed away, Bauer directed a $12.5 million gift to help build the new center as fitting tribute to Williams. Read more on the value and impact of this gift.

Trustee Hall
Trustee Hall is so named for the more than $7 million in gifts made by trustees and their families in 2002. In response to a “board challenge,” trustees’ generosity initiated support for the construction of this state-of-the-art academic building.
Trustee Hall was created by Austin architecture firm Andersson•Wise as a modern reflection of the traditional architecture of the university. The new structure added 15 classrooms to campus including a computer “tower” boasting a 24-hour computer lab and three computer classrooms.
Since opening, Trustee Hall has garnered significant accolades and media coverage, including:
- a Merit Award at the 2003 Design Excellence Awards sponsored by the Austin chapters of the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Interior Designers
- a feature in the July 2003 issue of Architectural Record, the nation’s leading architectural trade journal
