| H1N1 Flu Information
St. Edward's University is actively monitoring developments concerning outbreaks of the H1N1 flu virus, both locally and regionally. The university is receiving regular updates from the city and county Office of Emergency Management and the Emergency Operations Center.
It is important to take appropriate actions to prevent illness. University communities are susceptible to the rapid spread of contagious illnesses. We ask you to be more conscious of your health habits in the coming weeks. Protect yourself and others by:
- Frequent hand washing or use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer—especially before eating, and cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze. Sanitize your hands before and after using computers in computer labs or public places.
- Keep your hands away from your mouth, eyes and nose. If you cough or sneeze into a tissue, deposit it in a trash can. Do not place it on any surface that others might touch.
- Avoid close physical contact with anyone having the symptoms listed below.
- Seek medical care if you have two or more of the following symptoms:
- a sudden fever above 100.4 degrees
- body aches
- cough
- nasal congestion
- runny nose
- A specific characteristic of the H1N1 virus is that multiple symptoms occur at once.
Students with these symptoms should call Health Services at 448-8686 or contact your health care provider. Faculty and staff members should call their health care provider. The Health & Counseling Center is located in Lady Bird Johnson Hall in the new residential village. The staff will provide guidance about whether and how soon you need to be evaluated by a health care provider.
