Assistant Professor of English Writing & Rhetoric

Scope: 
St. Edward's University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of English Writing and Rhetoric to begin fall 2010.
Responsibilities: 
Essential:
Full-time teaching responsibilities (4 courses per semester). Teaching responsibilities include courses in the English Writing and Rhetoric major (especially courses in the major's core and the professional writing specialization) and the university’s general education curriculum, including Freshman Studies. Course release for research is available. Summer teaching is available but not required.
Academic advising of English Writing and Rhetoric majors.
On-going professional development and scholarly activity in Rhetoric/Composition.
Enthusiastic participation in planning and implementing the English Writing and Rhetoric major.
Other:
Participation in departmental, School of Humanities, and University projects, events, and committee assignments.
Qualifications: 
Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition or related area of expertise.
Demonstration of effective teaching.
Familiarity with contemporary research in rhetoric and composition, particularly in the areas of visual rhetoric, technical and business writing, and/or writing for new media.
Additional expertise desired in professional writing, document design, and desktop publishing. Academic credentials and experience that complement those of existing faculty.
Educational philosophy consistent with a liberal arts emphasis and values orientation.Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
