Definition
Casual labor is employment for less than three months on a job which requires minimal skills and training. Examples include simple typing/data entry, filing, assisting with mailouts, taking inventory, cleaning up after special events, answering phones, and driving.

Wage Scale
The pay range for casual labor is the same as the student pay range.

Position Announcement
Casual labor openings to be filled by St. Edward's University students or jobs lasting less than three weeks are not required to be posted. All other casual labor openings must be posted; however, upon submission of adequate written justification, a posting period may be waived by the Director of Human Resources. This approval is not automatic and must be received prior to the job offer.

To facilitate the appointment and timely receipt of wages earned, the following documents must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources on or before the first work day: Application for Employment, Applicant Data Record, Payroll/Personnel Action Notice or, if appropriate, an Employee Personnel Order, W-4, and I-9.

The job title should be noted as "Casual Labor." The Comments section should contain a brief description of the work to be performed and the expected ending date of the appointment.
