| Definition
Casual labor is employment for less than three months on
a job which requires minimal skills and training. Examples
include simple typing/data entry, filing, assisting with
mailouts, taking inventory, cleaning up after special events,
answering phones, and driving.
Wage Scale
The pay range for casual labor is the same as the student
pay range.
Position Announcement
Casual labor openings to be filled by St. Edward's University
students or jobs lasting less than three weeks are not required
to be posted. All other casual labor openings must be posted;
however, upon submission of adequate written justification,
a posting period may be waived by the Director of Human
Resources. This approval is not automatic and must be received
prior to the job offer.
Appointment Process
To facilitate the appointment and timely receipt of wages
earned, the following documents must be submitted to the
Office of Human Resources on or before the first work day:
Application for Employment, Applicant Data Record, Payroll/Personnel
Action Notice or, if appropriate, an Employee Personnel
Order, W-4, and I-9.
The job title should be noted as "Casual Labor."
The Comments section should contain a brief description
of the work to be performed and the expected ending date
of the appointment. |
