Scope
Perform responsibilities as a Peace Officer for St. Edward's University. Salary to start in the mid-30’s and is dependent upon education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Give directions, information and reasonable aid to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Represent the University in a professional and courteous manner.
- Patrol campus facilities to detect, deter and prevent criminal activity from occurring on the grounds of the University.
- Patrol campus parking areas to enforce University traffic and parking regulations.
- Investigate minor motor vehicle accidents and direct traffic as needed.
- Enforce University rules and regulations concerning the health and welfare of the University community.
- Respond to reports of crime or incidents on campus and conduct appropriate investigations; file reports as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention during disturbances on campus.
- Secure campus facilities and keep unauthorized personnel off University grounds in accordance with current University Police Department policy.
- Provide emergency assistance and transportation as required.
- Conduct general safety and fire inspections as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Valid Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts to include the Day Shift (7am to 5pm), Evening Shift (5pm to 3am), Midnight Shift (9pm to 7am) and the Overlap Shift (6pm to 4am).
- Must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, have a valid Texas Driver's License, and have a good driving record.
- Must be in good health with the ability to lift 50 pound object and climb four flights of stairs.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; one year (30 hours) of credit from an accredited college or university required.
- Ability to complete required in-house training program and 180 day orientation period.
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal with crisis situations.
- Must be of good moral character and not have criminal record.
- Ability to comply with workplace guidelines and attendance requirements.
- Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
