Why I Teach

Mathematics is a fantastic tool for teaching students how to think. It helps build a solid foundation for thinking through problems in all areas of life. One of my goals is to get students beyond the idea that mathematics is merely the task of pushing numbers around on a page. To get them past this misconception, I encourage students to put words to their thoughts. As they do so, they gain confidence in their understanding of what were once vague concepts.

As a teacher, I enjoy the challenge of creating new ways to help students. It is incredibly rewarding to see a student suddenly reach a new depth of understanding about a subject.
