Communication Portfolio- Sample- Part One

Part One Template

Instructions:
Each educational/training experience (formal class) that resulted in learning directly applicable to professional tasks within the communication field will have one of these preface sheets. All related documentation including videotapes, photographs, art, speech evaluations, papers, and projects should be placed in your portfolio immediately behind this page. Begin with your most recent training or educational experience and work your way back in time. (Do NOT include introductory speech classes.)

Brief Description of the course and its major units (use your own words):

The course syllabus is a good source for the description of the course and the objectives of the course. You should attach related documents from the class like press releases and written research projects completed successfully. These attachments will be entered as part of the document list in your portfolio table of contents.

  • Example:Course included study of major principles of public relations and applications of those principles to case studies within the field. Course also included designing and writing questionnaires, writing news releases, conducting content analysis research on various employee newsletters, and delivering an oral presentation on a current issue in public relations.

Measures of performance and frequency:

By what means was your performance evaluated and how frequently? Performance in the class was evaluated throughout the semester based on quality of assignments completed, examinations, and class participation.

  • Example:Performance in this course was measured with examinations and research papers.

In the space below, discuss in your own words the specific outcomes and skills you gained. Do not just repeat the offering organization or school's course description.

  • Example:One competency or skill I need to develop is the use of technology. For example, Desktop Publishing and computer presentation packages which would be helpful in working in the field of public relations.
