THE MARION ALBERT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Purpose
The purpose of the Marion Albert Leadership Scholarship is to assist Hispanic/Latina/o American students in completing their higher education at St. Edward's University. This scholarship is available on a competitive basis to undergraduate students of Hispanic/Latina/o background. Awards have ranged from $500-$2,500 (pending funding).
Eligibility
- You must be a United States citizen or permanent resident of Hispanic/Latina/o parentage including Mexican, Mexican-American, Chicana/o parentage.
- You must have completed at least 15 hours of college work at St. Edward's University prior to submission of the required application.
- You must be enrolled at St. Edward's University for the current fall, plan to enroll for the upcoming spring, and plan to attend in the consecutive fall.
- You must be a declared Communication major.
Application Deadline
Application is due by October 24, 2008. The application form is available in the School of Humanities, located in Andre Hall 105.
Selection
A review committee selects the Marion Albert Leadership Scholar. Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- academic achievement
- personal statement including future goals
- demonstrated leadership
- demonstrated community Service
- two letters of recommendation especially addressing items 3 and 4
Application Instructions
As no exceptions or extensions will be given, it is the applicant's responsibility to see that all of the following documents are submitted in one package by October 24, 2008:
- application form including a personal statement
- two letters of recommendation
- an official transcript
- financial aid award letter (if applicable)
OUTSTANDING COMMUNICATION MAJOR
Every April at the St. Edward's Honors Night, the Communication faculty selects one or two students to receive the Outstanding Communication Major award. This award is determined on the following merits:
- Student demonstrates consistently high-quality, polished, and insightful assignments.
- Student exemplifies excellence in the ten learning outcomes expected in Communication.
- Student serves as role model and representative inspiration for Communication majors.
