| GDES 2313 Graphic Design
I |
An introductory studio course for graphic design with
an emphasis on the principles pf visual organization in
order to communicate a message to a particular audience.
The goal of this course is to develop a general understanding
and a verbal and visual vocabulary to describe, generate
and evaluate basic graphic design objects from conceptual,
visual and technological points of view. Course work employs
handwork and computer technology. Prerequisite: CULF 1319
with a grade of C or higher for all non-GDES majors or

| Introduction to the fundamentals of typography. Typographic
theory and history are discussed in relation to course projects.

| Continued studies in visual communication emphasizing the
relationship of form and communication in graphic design.

Design |
| A lecture and discussion course that critically investigates
and explores graphic design history, including the historical,
social, economic and political factors that have shaped and
that have been shaped by graphic design. Prerequisites: Junior

Issues in Typography |
| Further exploration in typographic studies incorporating
more advanced and complex problems in both print and interactive
environments. Prerequisites: GDES 2313 and GDES 2314 with

| Required junior-level studio course. Students begin preparation
of their professional portfolios under the direct supervision
of their instructor. Prerequisites: Junior standing, GDES

Topics in Graphic Design |
| An advanced-level studio course focusing on the study of
professional-level contemporary topics. May be repeated for
credit as topics change. Prerequisites: GDES 3315 with a grade
of C or higher or permission of instructor. Fall. |

| GDES 4333 Senior
Studio |
Required senior-level studio course functioning as the
capstone for each student majoring in GDES. Students will
create new work under the direct supervision of the instructor
with the intention of preparing a professional portfolio
appropriate to their interests and goals. Prerequisites:
Senior standing and GDES 3343 with a grade of C or higher.

Studies |
This course is designed for junior and senior students
wishing to pursue an advanced topic within graphic design.
The work may be applied or theoretical. Students will work
individually with an instructor on a project contract basis.
Students must file an approved learning contract for this
course with their instructor prior to enrollment. May be
repeated for credit. Instructor's permission required.

| An opportunity for students to gain on-the-job experience
with current technologies, methodologies and concepts related
to the industry. May be required once for credit. Prerequisites:
