|
| In order to determine your “fluency and literacy”,
there are three exam options, only two of which will give
you college credit: |
| Advanced
Placement (AP) credit, which you will bring from high
school |
| College-Level
Examination Program (CLEP)(will open in a new window)
examination, which you can take here at St. Edwards (in
French, German or Spanish), or one of our own Placement
Exams, in any of the languages we teach. Currently, there
are two French Placement Exams
available through our Blackboard website. |
| If you plan to continue studying the language you have
experience with, you must be placed by one of these methods
before registering for a class. The Spanish Placement Exam
is available on all of the dates the CLEP exams are given
(check the dates at the link above), at the same location.
Placement testing in all of the languages we teach will
be given immediately before classes begin in the fall and
spring semesters. |
| Placement in an upper-level class automatically means
that you do not have to take courses at a lower level. All
of our minors or majors require certain language courses,
but if any of them are below your proficiency level, you
should take the CLEP to get official credit for them, or
you can Challenge courses below your level [see p. 14 in
the Undergraduate Bulletin.]. This will save you both time
and money as you proceed in your degree. |
| If you have some experience with another language, please
DO NOT register for a beginning level language class without
first taking one of the afore-mentioned tests. |
| If you have questions about any of these tests, go to
the linked web page, or contact Dr. Joby McClendon at jobym@admin.stedwards.edu. |
