Mary Moody Northen Theatre – 2008-2009 Season
Cloud 9
By Caryl Churchill
Directed by David M. Long
Sept. 25 – Oct. 5, 2008
With Guest Artists Babs George and Matt Radford
A hilarious assault on hypocrisy, this whirlwind tour from 1880s Africa to 1970s London confronts both colonial and sexual repression. With a gender-bent cast of characters who travel 100 years in time while only aging 25, Churchill challenges our preconceptions about sex, romance, gender roles, and race — all at a breakneck pace and with astounding theatrical flair.
“I really don’t know when I’ve had more fun.”– Rex Reed, New York Daily News.
For mature audiences (language, sexual content).

This elegant 1901 family saga follows the struggles of three sisters and a brother living in a provincial town and yearning to return to their beloved Moscow. Replete with sexual heat, gambling addiction, murder, infidelity, magicians, wandering minstrels, and arson…wait — could this be Chekhov? Moscow Art Theatre-trained Sheila Gordon presents an active, dynamic retelling guaranteed to resonate with modern audiences and rekindle your passion for this classic work.
For mature audiences (sexual content).
