THE IMAGINARY INVALID
By Molière
Translated and Adapted by David Chambers
Directed by David M. Long
Sept. 16 – 26, 2010
Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m.
A wickedly funny modern take on the classical French farce about health care, family and (bien sûr!) love, this world premiere translation promises to give you funny bone a brisk workout! Featuring guest artists Jill Blackwood, Robert Faires and Richard Robichaux.
“Lively fun!” — Variety
For mature audiences.
WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF
By Edward Albee
Directed by Christina J. Moore
Nov. 11–21 2010
Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m.
Albee’s powerful 1962 tale of love, politics and marriage slams onto the stage in a dynamic acting tour-de-force. Middle-aged academic George and his wife Martha invite a new professor and his wife over for a nightcap. The night of intellectual fun and games descends into marital warfare as the older couple employs the younger as pawns in their tense psychological battle. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? remains as pertinent, thrilling and, ultimately, devastating today as when it catapulted Albee to fame. Featuring Equity guests Babs George and Ev Lunning, Jr.
“[A] timeless play … unforgettable power.” — Ben Brantley, The New York Times
For mature audiences.
EURYDICE
By Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Michelle Polgar
Feb. 3 - 13, 2011
Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m.
Orpheus and Eurydice are in love — crazy, delirious love. All is going well until a strange man lures Eurydice away from her wedding reception with a letter from her long-dead father. This poetic, lyrical and surprisingly funny play by Pulitzer finalist Sarah Ruhl weaves a tale of love and compassion, memory and longing, reminding us of the enduring bonds of love between husband and wife, and father and daughter.
“A tender-hearted comedy … rhapsodically beautiful” — Charles Isherwood, The New York Times
ON THE VERGE
By Eric Overmyer
Directed by David Long
March 3 - 13, 2011
Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m.
Equipped with infectious optimism, humor and a pound of pluck, three Victorian women set off on an expedition to Terra Incognita, uncharted territory. They swiftly discover their journey is both a geographical and temporal adventure. This wild theatrical ride comes complete with pithy dialogue (to match their helmets), a bushel of anachronism, a Beat-poetry spouting troll, an encounter with Mr. Coffee, a Yeti, Cool Whip and a 1950s presidential campaign.
“A frolicsome jaunt through a continuum of space, time, history … feminism and fashion.” — Mel Gussow, The New York Times
CAROUSEL
By George Abbot and Richard Bissell
Music and Lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross
Directed by Michael McKelvey
April 7 - 17, 2011
Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m.
When Julie Jordan meets carnival barker Billy Bigelow on a carousel ride, her life is changed forever. Flirtation gives way to the unexpected power of love as the two are irresistibly drawn to each other in this glorious tale of love and redemption. The Tony-award-winning musical features June is Bustin’ Out All Over, You’ll Never Walk Alone and If I Loved You. With its splendid score and brilliant lyrics, Carousel was dubbed “the best musical of the Twentieth Century” by Time Magazine.
“Magnificent.” — The Los Angeles Times
