Archiving a Blackboard Course
Archive Course creates a permanent record of a course including all the content and user interactions. Archived Courses are a permanent record of the course. If you wish to save the course, but not the users, choose Export Course instead.
Archived courses are saved as .zip files. Archiving a course does not remove it from the system. The resulting zip file can only be used by importing the archive back into a Blackboard system.
Note: St. Edward’s removes all Blackboard courses older than 2 years each summer. If you wish to save course content and user interaction records, you must archive the course before it is deleted. Notification of course deletion is sent via email to all faculty.
Create an Archive
- Click on the Control Panel.

- Click Archive Course under Course Options.

- The course you are in will be automatically selected. Select Submit to export the course contents and save it for future use.
- On the following page, select Click here to download the generated package file to save the file. The package will not be saved in the Blackboard Learning System! If the package is not downloaded from this page it will be lost and the archive operation must be repeated. Save the file to your hard drive, EdShare or external media such as a CD.
