Network Troubleshooting Steps for Mac:
-
Use Firefox the first time you try to register your computer on the network. Once you have successfully registered Safari will work fine.
-
Check to see if you are able to browse to the stedwards.edu homepage. If you can successfully browse here, but cannot access outside sites such as google.com or facebook.com - call the Help Desk at 448-8443. Your IP may be blocked from the Internet.
-
For wireless, in your upper right corner turn your Airport wireless off [
] and then back on [
] selecting the "stedwards" wireless signal. (stedwards-guests does not require a login and will provide slower speeds) -
Try rebooting your computer. When the computer restarts, it will try to re-intiate an Internet connection.
-
Check the cable: Make sure that the cable is an Ethernet cable not a phone cable. You can tell the difference by looking at the connector. A phone cable has 4 pins and is smaller than an Ethernet cable, which has 8 pins. If the cable does not meet this description you can buy an Ethernet cable from the bookstore. Make sure it is plugged into the wall and into the computer. - You can access the Network Settings in system preferences by going to the apple logo in the top left corner and selecting System Preferences. Under Internet & Network heading, click on Network.
When set up correctly, the network status should read Connected, and it should be Configured Using DHCP:

- If your are still having problems, you can click the Advanced button and then click on Renew DHCP Lease.
Note: the Interference Robustness option listed under the airport icon
will not help with your wireless connection at St. Edward's. This function is only active when connecting to an Apple branded Airport base station.
