Outlook 2007

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

To use Microsoft Outlook 2007 to check and send mail from your St. Edward's University account you will need to setup your incoming and outgoing mail servers.

You will be setting up Outlook to use Secure POP to check your email and to use a process called "authenticated SMTP" to send your email. Secure POP encrypts your password for a higher level of security. Authenticated SMTP means you can use a St. Edward's University mail server (smtp.stedwards.edu) to send email from your computer from any location instead of using your RoadRunner, SBC or other service's outgoing mail server. Note that some Internet Service Providers may require that you use their outgoing mail server.

To setup Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Open Outlook and click on the Tools menu and select Account Settings.
  2. Make sure under the Email the “view or change existing e-mail accounts” is selected and click on “Next.”
    • If you are prompted to automatically set up your account, click on the box in the bottom left corner to "Manually configure server settings". Warning: It is imperative that you click this box before you move on. Outlook automatically downloads all the emails on the server to the computer you are currently using. There will be no emails left on the server email (i.e. @stedwards.edu).
    • You will later be able to mannually configure the server settings and set the option to leave the emails on the server.

    •   Check the box to the left of "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."

  1. Next, click on More Settings

Leaving a Copy of your E-Mails on the Server

If you wish to leave a copy of your e-mails on the server, check the box and also select the box to the left of Remove from server after ___ days. It is recommended that you remove mail from the server on a regular basis so that you do not exceed your mail quota (250 MB for students and 500 MB for faculty and staff).

  1. Click on Ok to save these settings.
  2. Click on Next and then Finish.
