Classroom Response Systems, "Clickers"

These handheld devices allow for greater student participation and realtime assessment within a class setting. Clickers have been found to encourage discussion of controversial issues, promote participation, provide comprehension checks during a lecture, and offer a great way to pre-test students before a quiz or test. Clicker questions are typically embedded within a PowerPoint presentation. Instructors have the option to display student answers on-screen or keep the results hidden in order to assess lecture comprehension privately. St. Edward's University equips a selection of classrooms with the clicker technology and faculty must request a clicker classroom several months in advance. Instructional Computing offers a wealth of resources to help train you and your students with the set-up, delivery and assessment of this technology.
