Creating a Channel in TopperText
Groups in TopperText are referred to as Channels. All Channels must be approved by a TopperText adminstrator.

How do I request a channel to be created?
- When you first log into TopperText you will see the My Channels tab. To create a group click on Create a Channel.
- Fill in your group's required information in the fields provided.
- The Name is the name of the channel.
- The Keyword is a short, less than 15 characters) name used for sending messages via cellphone.
- Description is required and should give a short description of the group.
- Visibility should be set to Private only invited members can view this channel and its posts
- Who can post should be set to Administrators so that only selected people can post to the group. If you choose Anyone, any member of the group can post.
- Click on Submit
- Confirm your group's information and clickon the Submit button to request your group creation.
- Your Channel Creation request will be sent to a TopperText administrator for approval. You will receive e-mail notification to your St. Edward's e-mail address when your request is approved.
Inviting People to your Channel
Once your request has been approved you, as the channel's administrator can
- Post messages and events
- Edit channel details
- Manage and invite people
- Modify user privileges
To invite people to join your channel:
- Log into TopperText and click on My Channels.
- Your new group will be listed and you will have an icon of admin. Click on the group name's link.

- In the left Channel Permissions box click on Manage.

- Click on Invite People

- You can look up any St. Edward's faculty, staff or student or enter a list of e-mail addresses separated by commas. Click on Add to add them to your channel.
- When you have added all your members click on Submit.
- Rave does not send e-mails to the invitees so you will need to send a separate notification to people to let them know you have invited them to join the group.
Changing Permissions for Channel Members
Once you have invited members you can designate some members as Administrator sor Contributors so they may post and invite members to the group.

- Be notified of new content
- Post content to this channel
- Edit content
- Manage member permissions
- Invite members
Contributors can...
- Be notified of new content
- Post content to this channel
Members can...
- Be notified of new content
To change permissions:
- Click on Manage in Channel Permissions.
- By default all new members are Members. You can change this by selecting a different role from the drop down menu next to each member.
- You can also Remove members by using the Remove button.
