There are five categories of icons in the Macintosh OS: special icons, application icons, file icons, folder icons, and alias icons. Examples of an application, a file, a folder, and an alias icon are depicted below. To select an icon, move the mouse pointer over the icon and single click. To open an icon, move the mouse pointer over the icon and double click. (Special icons will be discussed in Section 8)
