Section 3 - Using Menus

In the Windows OS environment, there are few items about menus you need to be aware of. In Windows Vista you may not see the Menu toolbar.

  • To view the Menu toolbar in Vista, select the Organize icon in the folder (shown below) click on Folder and Search Options.

  • Under the View tab in Folder Options put a checkmark next to ‘Always Show Menus’, click on Apply and then click on OK.

  • Menu items can have a check mark in front of them. This means the item is enabled and turned on.

  • Menu items may be dimmed or gray. This means the item can not be selected at this time. The menus pictured below are examples of pull down menus. Most menus in the Windows OS are pull down menus.

  • Some menu items have an arrow to their right. Hovering over these opens sub-menus.

  • Some menu items show a keyboard shortcut after them. Indicating this menu item can be executed by pressing the corresponding characters on the keyboard. (In this case, pressing Ctrl+A).
