Section 8- Naming Files, Folders, Aliases
Naming Files, Folders, Aliases
Often times you will want to rename the file, folder, or
alias that you just moved or copied. Before learning how,
you need to know two rules:
- The name cannot be over 256 characters long.
- The name cannot contain a colon (:), a slash (/), or
a period (.)
To rename a file, folder, or alias, click on the name of
the file, folder, or alias you want to change. After a brief
pause, the name will become highlighted and an edit box
appears around the text.

Type the new name in the highlighted field.
When you have finished typing, press Return on the keyboard,
or click anywhere else on the desktop with the mouse pointer
to accept the changes.
