Module 1 - Introduction to Computers - Windows OS
Lesson 6 - File Management
Section 9 - Copying Files or Folders

Copying is the action performed when you want a copy of a file or folder. To copy a file or folder click on the item you want to copy and hold down the Control (Ctrl) key on your keyboard and drag it to the new location. Release the mouse button and the copying process will begin.

You can also copy a file or folder by selecting ‘Copy this file’ in Windows XP or ‘Copy to folder’ in Windows Vista from the File and Folder Task menu. First select the file or folder you want to move then click Copy this file/Copy to folder. This process works very similar to moving the file.

You will know the copy process has started because the Copying status box will appear on the screen.

The Copying status box will automatically disappear once the file has been completely copied, and the item will be visible in the new location as well as the old location with the same name.
