Section 13 - Formatting Removable Disks

When you format a disk you erase all the information on the disk and reset its filing system. If you are formatting a used disk, make sure you do not need any of the information stored on that disk. Also, make sure your disk is not write protected. A write protected disk is physically altered so changes cannot be made to the files contained on it.

To format a disk, insert the disk into the disk drive. Double-click on My Computer and right-click on the disk drive. Click on "Format" from the menu.

The Format dialog box will appear. Check the Quick Format box to quickly remove all files and wipe the disk clean. When the process is complete click on the close button. Your removable disk is completely empty and ready to use.
