Section 5 - Accessing EdShare from the Residence Halls

To access EdShare from off campus you must FTP to the server using your SEU login information. This should be the same as your EdWeb login name and password. If you cannot login, you may need to reset your password using EdWeb.

*You must have a Secure FTP client installed to access EdShare from your home computer. We recommend using WinSCP 3.7.5 for Windows. This software is free to the St. Edward's community. You can download it from http://www.frc.stedwards.edu/installers.

How to setup FTP to EdShare using WinSCP (PC):


1. Open WinSCP. It should be located under Start > Programs > SEU Network Applications, or under Start > Programs.

2. Select Stored sessions, and click on New.

3. For the Host name enter edshare.stedwards.edu, and leave the port number as 22.

4. Enter your user name and password. * If this computer is used by more than one person, you may not want to enter your login name and password. This information will be stored and others can login to your account.

5. Select SFTP at the bottom. When complete, the window should look like this:

6. Click on Save. You will be prompted to enter a session name. Use the default, or enter a name and click OK.

How to login with a Stored Session using WinSCP (PC):

1. Open WinSCP. It should be located under Start > Programs > SEU Network Applications, or under Start > Programs.

2. Double click on the name of the Stored Session (Example: Edshare.stedwards.edu), and enter your login information if prompted and click on the Login button. If you cannot login, you may need to reset your password using EdWeb.

How to setup Fugu (OS X):

To access EdShare from off campus, resident hall, apartment, or wireless you must SFTP to the server using your SEU login information. This should be the same as your EdWeb login name and password. If you cannot login, you may need to reset your password using EdWeb.

You must have the Secure FTP client Fugu installed to access EdShare from your home computer. You can download it from http://www.frc.stedwards.edu/installers.

Configuring Fugu for SFTP to EdShare

1) Open Fugu by clicking on the Fugu icon in your Applications folder (If you installed it using the SEU Installers CD, it will be located in the SEU Applications folder).

2) Opening a Connection:

  • Enter Connect to: host.stedwards.edu (i.e. edshare.stedwards.edu).
  • Enter Username: login name (use the login name for your account on the host computer)
  • Enter Port: 22
  • Click on Add to Favorites to save the host name
  • Click on Connect.

  • When you are prompted, enter your password and click on Authenticate.

Once you have connected to a server via Fugu, you will see the following screen. The files listed on the left are those in your local computer, while the files on the right are those in your home directory on the remote computer. In the picture below files are listed for a folder on edshare.stedwards.edu.

Uploading files to another computer or server using Fugu

Simply drag the file you wish to transfer from one side of the window to the other. You can transfer from the local computer to the remote computer and back. You can also drag items from other windows or your desktop to the remote computer.
