Section 13 - Using Web Browser Options

Using Internet Options (PC)

  • Select Tools from the menu bar and select Internet Options.

 

The tabs at the top of the Internet Options dialog box are different categories that allow you to change your Internet preferences.

The tabs under the Internet Options dialog box include the following:

  • General: this will allow you to specify a homepage, clear your history, change different aspects of the display, such as the font, language, color and toolbar.
  • Security: allows you to specify the security level.
  • Privacy: allows you to select a privacy setting for the Internet. You can also access pop-up window settings.
  • Content: helps you control the Internet Content that can be viewed on this computer.
  • Connections: Connection Wizard allows you to set up your dial-up settings.
  • Programs: allows you to specify which program Windows automatically uses for each Internet Service.
  • Advanced: will allow you to set preferences that would change the set up which will affect all the aspects of Internet Explorer.

 

Using Preferences (MAC)

  • Select Firefox from the menu bar.
  • Click on Preferences.

The tabs at the top of the Preferences dialog box are different categories that allow you to change your Internet preferences.

The tabs under the Preferences dialog box include the following:

  • Main: this will allow you to specify a homepage, determine how Firefox downloads files, and set system defaults.
  • Tabs: allows you to control how to open a new web page – in a new window or new tab.
  • Content: Allows you to control the content that can be viewed, change pop-up window settings, and adjust different aspects of the display such as font, color, language, and toolbar.
  • Feeds: are specifically formatted documents which summarize the content of websites. Preferences in this pane determine what Firefox does when you view a feed.
  • Privacy: allows you to change your history settings, cookies, and private data.
  • Security: allows you to specify the security level and password settings.
  • Advanced: will allow you to set preferences that would change the set up which will affect all the aspects of Firefox.

 

NOTE: The computers in the labs have set web browser options and you will not be able to change the preferences on these computers.
