It is commonly acknowledged that a high-quality academic
library is crucial to any university program. What is often
overlooked is the necessity of ensuring that students acquire
the skills needed to fully utilize library resources. Central
to all forms of higher education is the concept that students
need not only to learn, but also to learn how to learn.
Competent research skills are a vital part of lifelong learning.
The role of the library is to serve as the gateway to the
overwhelming amounts of information available today. The
role of the librarian is to assist with and instruct in
locating and retrieving pertinent materials. The objective
of Lesson 1 is to help you become familiar with the Scarborough-Phillips
Library resources and services.
