Section 4 - Reference Desk
Seeking Help From A Reference Librarian
Librarians provide reference assistance as well as instruction
to groups and individuals on the bibliographic research
process and on identifying, locating, and using information
resources. Reference assistance is available in various
formats. You may:
- Come in person to the reference desk.
- The reference desk is staffed with professional librarians who are trained
to assist you with your research. You are not bothering them when you ask for
help. When working at the reference desk, the librarian's sole responsibility
is to help library users. They actually want you to ask questions. If several
other people have asked for assistance, you may have to wait, but you will be
helped as soon as possible.
- Make a reference appointment.
- To avoid any wait or interruption students may make an individual appointment
with a reference librarian to discuss a term paper topic, to develop an effective
research strategy, and to consult on the most productive procedures to ensure
a successful project. (Normally restricted to Capstone students)
- Email a reference question to refdesk@admin.stedwards.edu
or ask online at http://libr.stedwards.edu/Forms/ask.htm
- Call at (512) 448-8474
- A reference librarian can help you with all aspects your research including:
- focusing your research topic
- developing appropriate research strategies
- locating information sources for your topic
Ask for help! Librarians can make your life easier!
