Section 5 - Full-text Articles from Online Databases
You may be tempted to use only full-text articles for your
research because you can quickly print them off the computer
without doing further searching. For very short assignments
this method usually works fine because you need only a few
sources and most online databases contain many full-text
articles. However, consider some of the problems associated
with choosing to include only material you find in full-text
format from the Library's online databases in your research.
· many databases that offer full-text articles only offer
50%, or fewer, of their articles in full-text format
· relying solely on full-text articles may mean you miss
half, or more, of the available information on the topic
· you may need to use a specialized database that offers
no full-text articles at all.
For best results, use both full-text articles and articles
that are not full-text online.
Remember, articles that are not full-text in one online
database are often available in another or in the library
in print, microfilm, or microfiche. If unavailable in any
format through our library, interlibrary loan is generally
a painless and efficient process.
