Section 5 - Changing the Background Color

If you choose not to use a design template and would like to enhance your slide, you can apply a background. You can choose to apply the backgroun d t o individual slides or the entire presentation. A background can be added as a solid color or you can use one of PowerPoint’s special effects, called fill effects.  

PowerPoint XP or MAC PowerPoint 2004

To apply a solid color background:

  • From the Format Menu choose Background.
  • From the Background fill menu choose one the colors shown or click on more colors to access all colors.

To apply a Fill Effect:

  • From the Format Menu bar choose Background.
  • From the Background fill menu choose Fill Effects.
  • This window allows you to apply a gradient, texture, pattern, or a picture.

PowerPoint 2007

To apply a solid color background:

  • Click the Design tab an d t hen choose Format Background from the Background Styles button.
  • Choose a color, gradient, picture and other options that are all available in this window.

OR

  • Click on Background Styles and select Format Background .
  • The Format Background dialog box will display and you can choose the options under Fill or Picture.
