Section 7 - Changing Slide Layout

Layout refers to the way things are arranged on a slide. A layout contains placeholders, which hold text such as titles and bulleted lists and slide content such as tables, charts, pictures, shapes, and clip art.

In PowerPoint XP or MAC PowerPoint 2004, each time you add a new slide, you can choose a layout for it in the Slide Layout task pane. To change the existing layout of a slide to another slide layout:

  • On the Slides tab in normal view, select the slides you want to apply a new layout to.
  • From the FormatMenu select Slide Layout or in the Slide Layout task pane, point to the layout you want, and then click on it to apply to the slide.

PowerPoint XP Slide Layouts

In PowerPoint 2007, to choose a layout for the slide, click on the Layout button under the Home tab. The Layout button drops down to show your available options, as shown below.
