How much file
space do Faculty and Staff have available on EdShare?
All faculty an staff automatically receive 500 MB of storage space on
EdShare. This storage space may be used to store files of any type. Faculty
and Staff may request additional storage space up to a total of 1000
MB (1 GB). If you need additional space, you can fill out and submit
an EdShare
Quota Increase Form. To see how much space you are using on EdShare:
- Login to EdWeb for Faculty or Staff Information on
the Web.
- Click on the link for EdShare
Information.
- You will see your Soft Limit, your Hard Limit
and Space Used.
Soft Limit - This is the amount of space that is allocated
to you. All Faculty and Staff are automatically granted
500 MB of space. The Soft Limit may be automatically
increased to the Hard Limit for a grace period of one
week. This grace period allows you to either delete existing
files on EdShare to reduce your file storage space on
EdShare or gives you time to fill out and EdShare
Quota Increase Form to request an increase in space.
Hard Limit - This is the
absolute maximum amount of disk space that a user or
group can use. Once this limit is reached, no further
disk space can be used. You are
only allowed to use the amount of space between the Soft
Limit and the Hard Limit for a grace period of one week.
Space Used - This is the amount of disk space on EdShare
that files owned by you occupy. This includes any files
in your personal EdShare directory as well as any files
owned by you in department or other shares.
The Quota Report will show you how much space is allocated
to and being used by each of the staff or student workers
you supervise. |
How long will

How do I create an EdShare shared directory among members
of multiple departments?
Department shares are maintained by the Cost Center Manager
or Dean. If you do not have access to your department folder,
please contact your Cost Center Manager or Dean. If you need
to share files with members of a cross departmental committee
or if faculty wish to share access to a folder with students,
you must create a new, separate shared folder and explicitly
grant access to the people you wish to share it with.
- Login to EdWeb for Faculty or Staff Information on the
Web.
- Click on the link for EdShare Information.
- Click on Maintain Shared Access.
- Click on Add New Share.
- Enter a short, 14 character or less, name for the share.
- Enter a short description of the share.
- Click on Submit New Share. Note that the share will not
be available for use until the following day. A script
is run overnight to create the new share.
- To add people to your share click on the link for Update
Sharename.
- Add students, faculty or staff by login name (email).
You may look these up on the St.
Edward's Directory if
needed. Add one login name per line.
- Click on Submit Share Changes.
- By default everyone you add to a share has read and write
access to the files saved to that share. If you wish to
grant some members read only access, click on the Modify
Share button and click in the Change Acess to column
to change access for individuals to read only.

To remove any of these people from the share you would repeat
steps 1-3 and then click on Update Sharename. You would click
in the box to Remove This Access for anyone you wished to
remove. |
