Computer Help
Accessing EdShare from Off Campus or from the Residence Halls - Windows OS

To access EdShare from off campus you must FTP to the server using your SEU login information. This should be the same as your EdWeb login name and password. If you cannot login, you may need to reset your password using EdWeb.

*You must have a Secure FTP client installed to access EdShare from your home computer. We recommend using WinSCP 3.7 for Windows. This software is available free for all St. Edward's community members. Call 448-8443 for download instructions.

How to setup FTP to EdShare using WinSCP (PC):

  1. Open WinSCP. It should be located under Start > Programs > SEU Network Applications, or under Start > Programs > WinSCP.
  2. Select Stored sessions, and click on New.
  3. For the Host name enter edshare.stedwards.edu, and leave the port number as 22.
  4. Enter your user name and password. * If this computer is used by more than one person, you may not want to enter your login name and password. This information will be stored and others can login to your account.
  5. Select SCP at the bottom.
When complete, the window should look like this:
    WinSCP Login Screen

  6. Click on Save. You will be prompted to enter a session name. Use the default, or enter a name and click OK.

How to login with a Stored Session using WinSCP (PC):

  1. Open WinSCP. Should be located under Start > Programs > SEU Network Applications, or under Start > Programs >WinSCP.
  2. Double click on the name of the Stored Session (Example: edshare.stedwards.edu), and enter your login information when prompted. This will log you into your EdShare home folder. If you cannot login, you may need to reset your password using EdWeb.
  3. Your files in your Home folder on EdShare (/vol1/student/home/intitial/loginname) will be on the Right side of the screen. Files on your local computer's hard drive (C:\..\name\My Documents) will be on the left.
    WinSCP Student Files on EdShare
  4. You may drag files or folders from the left side to the right side to move files from your local computer to EdShare.

Publishing Your Web Pages

All students have a public_html folder in their EdShare folder. To publish a web site copy all html files, images and other documents inside this folder. Please note that the home page must be named index.htm or index.html.

  1. Log into WinSCP using the instructions above.
  2. Double-click on the public_html folder publick_html_folder iconlocated in your EdShare home directory.
  3. Move html and image files into public_html by dragging and dropping from your local computer on the left side to the EdShare/public_html folder on the right side. Make sure your public_html folder includes an index.htm or index.html file.
  4. Check your web site to make sure it works by using a web browser to navigate to http://myweb.stedwards.edu/loginname.
